THE ANNUAL MAY PROCESSIONS ON MOTHER'S DAY

Monsignor's last sermon on Mother's Day Monsignor's last May Procession

WHEN MONSIGNOR TOOK OVER THE PARISH MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO THE VERY FIRST THING HE DID WAS
CONSECRATE THE PARISH TO THE BLESSED MOTHER.  EVERY YEAR AFTER THAT UNTIL NOW HE RENEWED THE
CONSECRATION TOGETHER WITH ALL HIS PARISHIONERS DURING THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS ON NEW YEAR'S DAY.
THAT HIS PARISH KEPT GROWING EVERY YEAR HE CONTRIBUTED SOLELY TO THE INTERCESSION OF THE BLESSED MOTHER.

EVERY YEAR ON MOTHER'S DAY AT 3 P.M. A PROCESSION IN HONOR OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MOTHER WAS HELD.
IT STARTED AT THE RECTORY AND WHILE RECITING THE ROSARY THE PARISHIONERS FOLLOWED MONSIGNOR TO
THE PARISH CHURCH WHERE OUR LADY WAS CROWNED BY ONE OF THE FIRST COMMUNICANTS.
AFTER THE HOMILY - DURING THE EXPOSITION OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT - ALL PARISHIONERS JOINED
HIM IN THE ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY.   (TEXT ATTACHED)
AFTER THE BENEDICTION ALL WENT HOME TO CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY.
MONSIGNOR ALWAYS FELT STRONGLY THAT THIS DAY WAS ESPECIALLY MEANT FOR THE MOTHER OF GOD.

HE ALSO THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS THE MOST PERFECT OCCASION TO GET AS MANY AS POSSIBLE
OF HIS 34 ALTAR BOYS - OF WHO HE WAS SO PROUD - TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESSION.

ALL CLEAN AND READY TO GO FOR THE PROCESSION..............

"HIS" ALTAR BOYS, HE TRAINED THEM, GUIDED THEM, CARED FOR THEM THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND LOVED THEM
WITHOUT ANY RESERVATIONS.  HE CLEARLY SAW IN THEM THE FUTURE AND WAS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW ADDITIONS.
BUT THAT LOVE WAS CERTAINLY NOT A ONE WAY STREET. IT WAS RETURNED IN FULL. THEY ALL LOVED HIM EQUALLY THE SAME.

SO RAIN OR SHINE........... THE PARISHIONERS CAME OUT IN LARGE NUMBERS.

THE PROCESSION ALWAYS STARTED PROMPTLY AT 3 P.M.  -  WITH OR WITHOUT UMBRELLAS.....

WE USUALLY HAD GOOD WEATHER DURING THE PROCESSIONS BUT ONE YEAR THE SKY TRULY OPENED UP ON US AND IT
REALLY CAME DOWN HARD.  MONSIGNOR TOLD US LATER THAT HE WAS SO PLEASED THAT NOBODY LEFT BECAUSE OF IT.
HIS WORDS: "WHEN I REACHED THE CHURCH I TURNED AROUND FOR A BRIEF MOMENT AND COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES.
NOT ONE HAD LEFT THE PROCESSION. ALL HAD CONQUERED THE RAIN. SOME HAD UMBRELLAS BUT MANY HAD NOT AND
THEY WERE SOAKED TO THE SKIN . BUT ALL MADE IT INTO THE CHURCH !  IF YOU THINK THAT I WAS PLEASED YOU
CANNOT EVEN VAGUELY IMAGINE  HOW TRULY PLEASED THE BLESSED MOTHER AND HER SON MUST HAVE BEEN........ !"
JUST A YEAR AGO DURING THE 2005 MAY PROCESSION HE MADE A SIMILAR STATEMENT - THAT "GOD MUST HAVE BEEN
TOUCHED - SEEING ALL THESE PEOPLE".  THAT WAS HIS LAST SERMON EVER HELD DURING THE MAY PROCESSION.
